Networking event “Gateway to success: Business Opportunities in Türkiye”,

On March 13th, 2024, The EAST Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Norway (Østhandelskammeret), in collaboration with the Turkish Embassy in Oslo, organized a significant networking event “Gateway to success: Business Opportunities in Türkiye” with focus on a wide range of topics relevant to the bilateral relationship between Turkiye and Norway. This included trade, construction industry, maritime, shipbuilding, tourism, and healthcare. 

Her Excellency Ambassador Gülin Dinç from the Turkish Embassy in Oslo, alongside with Marit Hiim Haugseth, Chair of EAST CCI of Norway and representative of the Norwegian Fishermen’s Association, warmly welcomed all participants.

 

Ceren Fırat, the Commercial Counsellor at the Turkish Embassy in Oslo, underscored the importance of Turkiye’s global engagement in commerce, highlighting various industry sectors such as maritime, agriculture, energy, and infrastructure for potential collaboration. She also emphasized Turkiye’s importance in the technology sector, including ICT, showcasing a vibrant startup culture and innovation-driven growth. Furthermore, she touched upon infrastructure development which has significantly bolstered Turkiye’s economy and trade capacity. With its strategic location and increased investments, Turkiye remains as a dynamic force in the global economy.

 

Svein Stolpestad, Group Vice President Strategy and Sustainability, Jotun, underlined the key elements contributing to Jotun’s success, including risk assessment for the company’s operations in Turkiye. Jotun has 30 years of experience in the country and has established 2 factories, 6 offices, more than 700 employees, producing  55 million liters of paint and coatings annually.

 

Presentations continued into collaboration in shipbuilding between Norway and Turkiye, with insights provided by Cem Seven, Chairman of the Turkish Ship, Yacht & Marine Services Exporters Association, and Prof. Dr. Mustafa İnsel, Chairman of Technical Affairs and R&D Commission at the Turkish Shipbuilders’ Association (GISBIR), Istanbul. Turkiye’s shipbuilding industry comprises over 85 active shipyards, generating an export turnover of approximately 2 billion USD annually.

 

Hüseyin Sağmak from the Ministry of Trade of Turkiye presented the concept of “Heal in Turkiye,” informing about opportunities for health tourism between Turkiye and Norway. He discussed a wide range of potential medical treatments for collaboration and growth in this sector.

 

Rune O. Methi, Project Director from East CCI of Norway, professionally moderated the meeting.

The meeting provided a comprehensive overview of existing and potential collaborations between Turkiye and Norway across various industries. Informal discussions and networking continued in a vibrant and dynamic atmosphere following the interventions.
